I Am Becoming the Best Version of Myself – Step by Step to My Best Self

A woman with outstretched arms celebrates the sunset in a grassy field, capturing the essence of freedom and joy.

Everyone has a vision of who they want to be – the best version of themselves. But often, deeply rooted beliefs stand in our way, unconsciously preventing us from reaching our full potential.

In this article, you’ll learn how to overcome these blocks and grow step by step.

1. Define Your Best Self – Who Do You Want to Be?

Before you can unlock your full potential, you need to get clear about what your best self actually looks like.

Often, we have a vague idea of who we want to be, but we never take the time to truly define it.

That’s exactly where the journey begins:

  • How do you want to feel?
  • What values are important to you?
  • Which traits do you want to integrate more into your life?

I’ve learned that it’s not enough to simply say, “I want to be the best version of myself.” You need to get specific about this version of you.

What does that mean for you? Imagine you had already achieved everything you strive for.

  • How would you think?
  • How would you act?
  • What habits would you have?

I ask myself this every day:

  • What would my best self do?
  • Would my best self think this way?

Take time to reflect on these questions.

I actually enjoy this, because I notice how it changes my thinking and how I see myself.

Journaling can also help – sit down and write about how your best self lives, feels, and makes decisions.

The clearer the image you have, the easier it will be to take the right steps.

Only when you have a clear vision can you take purposeful steps toward becoming that version of yourself.

2. Understand Your Beliefs – What’s Holding You Back?

Our beliefs are shaped in childhood through upbringing, experiences, and social influences. Some are helpful, but others limit us. You might have thoughts like:

  • I’m not good enough.
  • I’ll never make it.
  • I can’t do this.
  • I’m not smart enough.
  • I have to work really hard to achieve anything.
  • I must not make mistakes.
  • Success is hard.
  • Change is difficult.

These are just a few examples of beliefs that may be rooted in your subconscious. Such assumptions influence your behavior more than you might think.

But remember – these are not truths. They’re beliefs that have been reinforced over time through repetition.

Start identifying and questioning your limiting beliefs.

Become aware of your thoughts. Notice how you think about yourself and situations.

Are these thoughts helping you or holding you back?

Ask yourself for each belief: Is this really true? Where does this thought come from? Is there evidence against it?

Take your time – it’s okay if questioning your thoughts doesn’t come easily at first.

3. Replace Limiting Beliefs with Positive Affirmations

Once you recognize your negative beliefs, you can consciously replace them with empowering ones.

Instead of thinking:

  • “I’m not good enough.” → Replace with: “I am worthy and growing every day.”
  • “I’ll never make it.” → Replace with: “I am capable of learning everything I need.”

Reframe your beliefs in a way that feels supportive and believable.

If saying “I am worthy” feels too far from where you are, try “I am enough.”

Positive affirmations are powerful when practiced regularly. Your brain builds new connections until these new thoughts run automatically – but it takes time.

Say your affirmations out loud or write them down – this helps anchor them more deeply in your subconscious.

4. Set Realistic Goals – Step by Step Toward Success

Becoming your best self doesn’t happen overnight. Give yourself time and enjoy the process instead of overwhelming yourself with huge goals.

Start with small, achievable steps and be proud of yourself – the fact that you’ve started this journey is already a major success.

  • Set clear, realistic goals: What areas do you want to improve?
  • Start with small changes: Every bit of progress counts.
  • Be patient with yourself: Personal growth is a process, not a race.

Write down three small things you can do today to move closer to your goal.

5. Surround Yourself with Positivity and Inspiration

Your environment has a huge influence on your personal growth. Make sure to spend time with people who uplift you, not those who hold you back.

Look for people with a positive mindset.

What I’ve especially noticed on my journey: As soon as you start consciously working on your mindset, you naturally spend less time around people who don’t support your growth.

You’ll begin to feel how their energy weighs you down – their complaining and negativity will start to bother you – and over time, they’ll fade from your life naturally.

That’s exactly what happened to me – and to many others, too.

Let yourself be inspired:

  • Read uplifting books or articles
  • Listen to motivational podcasts
  • Spend time with people who have a positive attitude

The more you surround yourself with positivity, the more you will grow.

6. Accept Setbacks – Growth Is Not Linear

There will be days when you doubt yourself or face setbacks. That’s a natural part of the growth process.

In those moments, it can feel like failure. But would your best self think that way? 😏 Probably not.

So don’t let it discourage you. Every challenge contains a valuable lesson and brings you closer to your goals.

7. Take Action – Your Best Self Starts with the First Step

Setting goals is important – but real change only happens when you take action.

Sadly, many people stay stuck in the dreaming phase because they feel blocked inside.

Maybe you’ve experienced this too – wanting to change, but always falling back into old patterns.

Ask yourself honestly: What’s holding me back?

  • Is it self-doubt?
  • Fear of failure?
  • Or the belief that you don’t deserve to be happy or successful?

Take a moment to reflect:

  • What fears might be keeping me from taking action?
  • Do I have unconscious beliefs that are holding me back?
  • Do I truly believe in myself and my ability to create change?

Once you recognize these thoughts, you can start to question and shift them.

And then comes the most important part: taking action.

Your Best Self Begins Today

There is no better time than right now – there’s no perfect moment to start.

Don’t wait until you feel ready. Start now.

Growth happens when you intentionally step out of your comfort zone and try something new. Be kind and patient with yourself, celebrate every bit of progress, and stay curious about what’s ahead.

You already have everything within you to become the best version of yourself.

Believe in yourself, enjoy the journey, and make the most of every opportunity to live a happy and fulfilled life.

With all my love,
Liv
